New applications for embedded flash modules are rapidly emerging due to the low cost per megabyte, lower power consumption, and inherently greater reliability than rotating hard drives. Most applications running embedded operating systems such as VxWorks, Windows, XP/embedded, and Linux don't have large data storage requirements, and a cost savings can be immediately realized.  The standard 40-pin or 44-pin IDE interface ensures compatibility and eliminates the need for proprietary software drivers or connectors.
